24p plays smoother in 29.97 timeline
I noticed that when I dropped in 24p footages (from the Panasonic DVX100B) on a 29.97 timeline in Premiere and then send it to Encore as 29.97, the final DVD runs smoother, much like real movies on DVDs.
Since the 24P footages from DVX are actually 29.97 (24 frames per second in a 29.97 stream), I am guessing that by dropping those footages in a 29.97 timeline, the pull-down is preserved (not removed), providing smoothness to the video. And since there has been no change in the original video (since the pulldown is intact), then video will not speed up nor down, maintaining the original speed and length.
What do you guys think? Would you approve of this approach: DVX100 footages (shot in 24p) dropped in a 29.97 timeline?
