    Hello all!

I am making the switch from Final Cut to Premiere after I saw a demo of the Mercury engine and the Ultra Key….so suffice to say I am learning the ropes.

My issue is that I still want to use Apple’s Motion for my graphic overlays and I have a lower 3rd project that I am trying to export to use in Premiere but I can’t seem to get it to work in Premiere. Instead of just having the lower 3rd, I get a huge black box with the lower 3rd that blocks all the video. 🙁

I am 100% positive this is a super easy fix, but I can’t find any tips on this online in quick searched. Any help would be appreciated as I don’t know if this is something in Motion or Premiere.

I am exporting from Motion as a NTSC Broadcast SD .mov file with Alpha as my final output is Broadcast SD. Thanks much!

Let me clarify a bit more and hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

When I export the file from Motion and drop it in the timeline of Premiere, it shows up just fine in my workspace.

However when I render the section with the lower 3rd, or export the sequence, the lower 3rd looses its transparency and covers up the talent. Here is what it looks like when I shrink it down just a bit so you can see the problem a bit more clearly.

Again, I really do apologize for what is probably a really dumb question, but I have never used Premiere before and am trying my best to find materials and help in other sources as well so any help anyone can offer would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi J,

if you import your file back into motion…do you see the transparency there?

If not, there is something wrong with your export setup.

If yes, then PPro is having trouble interpreting it.

    Let us know…

    Hi Alex,

I apologize for the delay in my response as I had to go back to working FCP to finish my project, but now I am back to figuring out this issue.

I confirmed that I was able to see the transparency of the file in Final Cut Pro as it worked just fine there though I normally just drop the motion file into the timeline but that is an Apple thing obviously.

Okay, so here are my output settings from Motion:

    Kind: Quick Time Movie
    Compressor: Apple ProRes 4222
    Resolution: 1920×1080
Color: Color + Alpha (Premultiply alpha)

I am trying it with a different non-apple compressor to see if that does the trick, but here is the odd thing. When I scrub the playback head over the section with the lower 3rd before I render the work area, it makes the black dissapear and it looks as it should. But once I render it or play it back normally before I render it, the black box still shows up.

I will let you know if I find another codec that works. Thanks!

First make sure the background is transparent by pressing .

Then in the export settings, I found that it needs to be “same as source”.

    Does this help?
