So can I BYPASS Media Encoder?
Back in the archaic days of my youth, I toyed around with an antiquated version of Premiere Pro. Before long, I determined that the best results I could get, when making a DVD, involved using Debugmode Frameserver to send Premiere Pro’s frames to some other program (or just RAW, if it was small enough).
Now that Media Encoder has latched onto Premiere Pro like a tumor, I find I’m really, really wanting that frameserving option again. I am not fond of presets, or limitations, and Media Encoder represents both. If I want to do a 7-pass VBR, it’s not happening with Media Encoder.
I’m using CS4. So how can I bypass Media Encoder and finally get this project done? Thanks.

I imagine if debugframe….works with the latest you may be able to, CS5 has buttons at the bottom of the export open window that allows you to directly export (versus launching AME) or “Queue” to AME. However, it has the face of AME, not just the browser window like old Premiere 6 the last time I used frameserver. give me more info on how to test and I’ll try it.

Blah. Debugmode Frameserver has a version which is supposed to work with CS4. I tried it. Once it hits Media Encoder, it crashes. And this is apparently common. And this is CS4 we’re talking about – hardly brand new. I have no hope for CS5.
What a stumbling block. The worst part is I can’t seem to find a raw video setting that doesn’t result in some sort of quality loss (generally in the form of ugly posterization that certainly wasn’t there before), so even that is out.
