Rendering/exporting issues with PPro CS4/AME with new monitor
Hi,
Hopefully I can explain this clearly. I have been using PPro CS4 to edit computer game footage for some time now, and it’s been working great. But I am currently having problems after getting a new LCD monitor and I can feel my ability to render these files properly slipping away from me.
Previously I had a monitor with a native res of 1680×1050. I would record footage at this res, then import these files into an uncompressed (desktop) 720p timeline, using the “Scale to Frame Size” option for the 1680 clips. I would then render out at the same 720p settings and they would look great both on my HDD and on Youtube.
Recently I replaced this monitor with an LCD which displays at 1920×1080. So, now I record at this resolution. However, I found that using the same timeline and the “Scale to frame size” option produced significantly lower quality video. Is this because there is more scaling being done to the 1920×1080 video than the previous 1680? I’ve attached a screen capture to illustrate (1680/720 on the left, 1920/720 on the right).
Since then I’ve set up a new timeline which matches the frame size of the video exactly (1920×1018, as it’s windowed). This produces great quality rendered h.264 video, but the youtube quality is again pretty undesireable compared to what I used to get from my old 1680×1050 monitor editing. In addition it has gray artifacting at the beginning of the clip (probably a youtube problem).
I guess what I’m getting at is at this point I’m trying a million different render settings when I used to have it set up so nicely. Put simply, how would you best handle setting up a timeline for 1920×1018 video? Am I missing a setting causing the 720p final render to look so poor, or is that just what it is (and I should render it in 1080p instead?)
Thanks for reading.
