No love in the basics forum, so I’ll try it here. This is normal DV footage, captured normally and displaying in Premiere CS4 in a DV 48k sequence preset. The captured .avi file plays perfectly smoothly in Windows Media Player, but it is stuttery in Premiere. The only playback option I have in the playback preferences panel is the Adobe player. I am migrating over to Premiere CS4 from FCP and this has been very frustrating so far.

Did you capture the video as a Microsoft DV avi?

I captured it in Premiere, and it is an .avi. BTW, I’m running Win7, 64 bit.

Can you give us a list of your system specs, including video card?

    Here’s what I have

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-MA770T-UD3P Motherboard
    AMD Phenom II X3 705e tri-core processor
    6 gig RAM
    ATI Radeon 4600
    500 gig ATA hard drive

I’ve talked to some who think it is a Windows 7 issue, but I have no idea if they are right or not. I’d rather not go thru the brain damage of downgrading to Vista…

If simple DV (AVI) captured through firewire causes issues, then the problem could be related to the ATI card. We’ve seen all kinds of issues with ATI, most solved by rolling back drivers on Win 7. The best way to find out would be to borrow an Nvidia card and try it out.
