About a week ago I upgraded to a caldigit HD element in RAID 5. However I have not experienced a significant performance boost. Using a matrox mxo2 mini for preview (without matrox) to edit mpeg2 is impossible. Editing without the mxo2 is possible but still laggy. I have tried running everything from the RAID (project file, media, scratch etc.) I am now opening my projects from the system drive with media, previews, and cache on the RAID and have finally achieved the smoothness of editing from an external USB drive.

All drivers are updated as is the software and the RAID is seemingly functioning correctly. I am not sure where the weak link in the chain is. Workflow/software/hardware ir all three.

With a similar hardware configuration what is the optimum workflow?

Does anyone out there in the ether have similar problems running cs4, win7 and the HD element?

    Thanks.

    System config:
    Win7 64 bit
    8GB RAM
    quad cor @ 2.4GHZ
    Caldigit HD element RAID 5

Sounds to me like a disk issue. You might want to check your raid performance with IOMeter or Aja disk performance utility.
