Stategies for tracking used footage
Just wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to keep track of footage that hasn’t been used in edits.
My usual workflow is to cut unneeded footage out and place it in another sequence which I always call ‘cut’s. However sometimes when I am really getting into the zone I just edit away without doing this.
I keep looking for some kind of function in premiere that gives me a database showing exactly what parts of what footage has been edited and what hasn’t. Ideally this would the be able to spit out a sequence containing all the source footage that hasn’t been used in a particular sequence so I could then go back and use it for behind-the-scenes or other editing needs.
Is this kind of functionality something that exists on other NLE’s. What would it be called if it was?

You can choose to have a column that identifies video and/or audio clips that are on a timeline…but it doesn’t indicate trims, just which media clips are on the timeline. With longer clips that are cut up, it will tell you how many separate times it appears.
…but the trims within the clip is something else entirely. i don’t know if there is a way to do that. I don’t know of one personally.
