Particle Illusion (Combustion’s particle system) is available for AE.

Additionally you might want to look into Trapcode’s Particluar. Nothing else is like it in terms of speed, ease of use and flexibility.

Although it has been promised for years, Particle Illusion is not available as an AE plugin, it’s a standalone application. It is also a 2D system.

AE 7 includes several particle plugins. Particle Playground is powerful but VERY difficult to use. CC Particle World is a decent particle system that responds to an AE camera. There are tutorials and demo versions available at

As noted above, Trapcode Particular is a true 3D particle system, and for my money the best of the bunch.
