I am running a Blackmagic Intensity Pro through Premiere for capturing and playback. The problem is that I can’t get audio to play through the computer speakers and headphones while playing through the timeline. When the external display is connected to the Blackmagic card, it plays audio through that just fine.

How can I get it to play audio through the computer and not the display? I have checked as many settings as I can think of but I am not getting it.

The video playing in the source monitor plays audio through the computer but not the video playing in the timeline. So it has something to do with the playback settings but I can’t figure it out.

I know this thread is old, but perhaps I can help.

I too have a Black Magic Intensity Pro and encountered a similar problem. As opposed to connecting your speakers from your ‘out’ in your computer’s sound card, attach them (with adaptors) to the snake that comes with the Black Magic card.

There should be a red and white female output from the card that you can connect your speakers to (you will need a female 1/8″ to 2 male RCA turnaround).

Black Magic has a tech support you can call – which is how I discovered this solution.

I hope that helps and that I’m not too late that you have tossed your computer out the window yet 🙂

My card only has the HMDI In, HMDI Out and an S-Video port. I don’t see any audio ports on the card.

The other problem is that I would have to switch the speakers everytime I changed projects. When I capture directly from the camera in Premiere, the Adobe Playback option works just fine, audio runs through the speakers. I only have this problem when I capture audio/video from the Blackmagic card and/or work in Projects that were started with the Blackmagic settings. Does Premiere auto assign settings to project files when you create them that cannot be changed?

Hi, guys. I’m using Premiere Pro 7 and I had the same problem and corrected it this way. Project > project settings > General. On the right side there’s a button called “Playback Settings”, it opens a DV Playback Settings window. There you have “audio playback”. Mine was set to “Play audio on DV hardware”. I changed it to “Play audio on Audio Hardware” and that solved the problem. Seems very stupid, but sometimes that’s where problems come from. I hope I helped.
