    Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the best settings for Adobe Premiere CS4 for the following workflow:

    In terms of Capture –
I shoot on DVC Pro tape stock, then bring it in through a Panasonic AJ-D230H DVCPro Deck which runs into a Canopus ADVC-100 converter, then through fire wire into my computer into Premiere Pro. I’ll then edit the project.

    In terms of Export –
    A) I’ll export to tape, it will then go through the ADVC-100, then to my DVCPro Deck, which I just press play and record.

or B) I’ll send the timeline through dynamic link to Encore, then create a DVD.

or C) I’ll export to media, encode the project, then open a new project in Encore, import the new encoded project as an asset and create a DVD.

In all the above, there are prefence settings, capture settings, device control setting in different areas. For example, when capturing, what specific settings need to be adjusted?
When exporting to tape or media, what specific settings need to be adjusted? Or exporting with Dynamic Link to Encore, what should be adjusted?

I also have the Elemental Accelerator 2.21, though I’m not using High Definitiion video. Will the Elemental Accelerator speed things up in any way in exporting my project to tape, media or Encore? I have an i7 Quad core processor with 8 gigs of ram, a large hard drive, and the Quadro FX1800 video card.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Unfortunately, your workflow is really killing the quality you were getting from DVC Pro since you are converting to DV. So in terms of timeline, you will be working in DV widescreen or 4:3 depending on the source footage. I would recommend you look into AJA or Blackmagic capture cards to keep that quality you are getting on tape.

Your capture settings really shouldn’t have to be changed.

Dynamic link will not really give you any options since there is no rendering involved. In Encore, you can however change your transcode settings.

Under 1 hour of total footage with a simple static menu, set it to 7.5 Mb?s CBR, above that use a bit rate calculator.

Haven’t messed with a 230 Pana deck in a while, if I remmember correctly its basically s-video out I/O so conversion to firewire I/O should be ok for in and out. there might be a slight generation loss but small, DVCpro is basically the same as DV if captured from a deck that has firewire I/O, and for other uses in the computer you would follow a normal DV workflow your computer has plenty of horsepower for mundane tasks.

The elemental acc is basically a H264 or flash accelerator
