    Hi,

    for some reason I won’t be able to import/export a 16 bit tiff file to/from premiere. It either keeps telling me unsupported format or converting it down to 8 bit…
    (According to the manual 16bit files are supported -though it doesnt state whether tiffs are included..)

    Even if I tick ‘maximum bit depth’ upon export and in the preview settings, it will only export an 8bit tiff.
    Any ideas please what I’m doing wrong here?
    Thanks
    Andrea

    It’s not supported, but I can’t imagine you would need that high of a depth in Premiere. Remember, for images 8 bits is per RGB channel, which means that without the alpha channel your image is already 24 bits.

    16 bits is usually only used for image editing and manipulation in Photoshop etc.

    hi vincent,

    we need premiere to prepare our files from Maya/Nuke (32bit fp) for colour grading in scratch. As we have a gradient as a background, we need to keep it in 16 bit before the grading to avoid any artefacts that might occur.

    [Andrea Hofmann] “we need to keep it in 16 bit”

    When you are saying 16bit are you refering to 16 bit color(high color) as 5:6:5 per channel or are you refering to 16 bit per channel or 48bit color(deep color)

    16bit per channel (-> 48bit color depth)
