I am rendering 1080i avchd footage to mpeg 2 for dvd export. I am using the interlaced pal widescreen profile but with maximum quality and maximum render quality enabled. The video is awful, unsharp, lots of compression artifacts such as colour banding, blockiness and line jitter and blacks very undecided on what colour they want to be 😀

Has anyone got a solution or alternative way of rendering, I’m really not happy with the quality. If professionals use this software, then how come their videos render beautifully

F.y.i min bitrate 2.5, target 4.7 and max 7, tried cbr but no difference at 6 mpbs

Premiere does a very bad job in downscaling.
Have a look at the Adobe forum and look for posts by Dan Isaac. He has a wonderful workflow with remarkable good results.

You should read my article here, which includes image comparisons and all:

It provides a step by step walkthrough using Dan’s method, with additional tips here and there including a lengthy discussion from other readers posting tips.

The pros may not be using avchd, we would not, only tape and H264 mov. from a Canon 5D mark II, the results back to tape are “stunning’ but, if you downgrade 10801 to a DVD at 720 x 576 PAL here, which it should be , the results shown are a little disappointing on a Sony Bravia 46” Full HD Monitor. Run it to Bluray or High Definition tape.

    Good editing
