Solution to import xml Final Cut 7 Premiere Pro CS4
Was the other day trying to import a xml file Final Cut 7 to Premiere and I realized, As many other users that this characteristic of Premiere had stopped working when using an xml exported from the latest Final Cut, The 7. What has happened is that those of Apple have changed the structure of Las xml tags in the latest version (I guess for the Premiere can not import them) as follows:

And the last label style is what gives the problem in the Premiere. Nor was much of xml, But did not seem so difficult to change that structure, Import the xml of version 7 in Dreamwaver and simplemnete by using the find and replace using regular expressions change all Las labels to make them as in version 6 Final Cut, And voila, The Premiere the imported without problems.
I then put a workflow in case anyone wants to test:
1 – export from Final Cut 7 an XML of the chosen sequence. Choose type " Apple xml interchange format, Version 4 "
2 – open the xml with Dreamwaver and go edition, Find and replace…
3 – use the parameters FOLLOWING:
Search: Current document
Seek: Source code
Seek: <(w*)(.*)/>
Replace: <$1$2>
Check the tab "using regular expression4 – I created a search query and replacement that I posted on the internet, If you want load it directly instead of putting the previous parameters:

5 – give all and expect to replace. Depends on how long or the xml may cost a little.
6 – save the new xml with the Dreamweaver.
7 – import into the Premiere Pro CS4
All Las I've done tests have gone well, But also satisfy itself that is 100% functional as the resolution is a bit chapucerilla.

The solution above is functional, but it’s bad posted. This forum doesn’t allow me to write correctly the examples and the Replace expression. I think it’s because the html of the forum get confused with the expressión and the xml labels.

Didn’t work for me 🙁
I exported from FCP 7 to XML v1 -didn’t know I should export to XML v4 from FCP before reading this post- to avoid any compatibilty issues.
Made the tag replacement, but CS4 (v4.2.1) still does show nothing on the tray when importing the XML. No errors, no bins, nada.
I’ll have to wait to monday to use again the Mac where I was editing. A huge pity and disaster because only lasted to ready up a pair of scenes and tomorrow is the deadline.
I’m so f****** dissapointed with that psychotic mania of messing up the ‘standard’ workflows between versions of the NLEs. Lots of hours working for Devil… That’s really a pain in the ass.
At least I did this work entirely for free, so I haven’t to worry so much but I’m terribly concerned about trespassing the deadline. I hate that more than anything.

Why don’t you post the XML file here and one of us with fcp can open it and re export the XML for u and post the right version. 😉
