  • Video in Program Window is Too Large – CS3

Posted by Stewart Goldstein on October 25, 2009 at 10:19 pm

    I am new to Premiere.

When I bring videos into the Timeline, the outer edges of the videos are being cropped off.

I first noticed this when I saw that my titles, which were title-safe in Photoshop and After Effects, were way out of the margin in Premiere.

The videos are not of an unusual size or proportion. Just plain old boring standard definition 4:3 video. And Premiere is cutting off the outer edges.

What setting do I change so the videos will snap to the window size?

    Thx

Are the video settings matching the project settings?

Yes, the settings for the project match the video. NTSC 720 X 480, 4:3, 0.9.

Has the clip been accidentally scaled up…Expand “Motion” in the Effects Control Panel…is Scale larger than 100%?
Do any other clips exhibit this issue?

I will expand “Motion” when I get home, but I wanted to tell you now that yes, all of the clips I am importing have been exhibiting this behavior.

Thanks to all for your responses.

Just below the Program Monitor window, there is a little box. It may say “100%”, or another percentage. Click the drop down next to it and choose “Fit” and the video will scale to whatever size the window is. If set to a percentage, and the window is not large enough, video may get cut off.

Jeff, I thought of that as well, except Stewart’s screen grab clearly shows the bounding box around the video frame is outside the Program Monitor by about 10%…the sequence settings and the video properties dont match.

I’ve see something similar before where the video was saved as 720×480 square pixels in AFX vice .9 that will give approx 10% more on the horiz edge.

    Hi Mike,

Curious, I’ve looked and looked and don’t see a screen grab attached to any posts here, where did I miss that?

Anyway, back to Stewart, let’s start at the beginning. What is the source video – miniDV captured via 1394, or something else? Just to make sure there is no issue in the workflow being used.
