Recently some of my sequences are playing back al choppy and with audio going mute at some points, even after I rendered the previews in draft quality and the render line appears green.

I still have the same system and I’m using the same kind of files, although it’s not a mac pro with 8 cores and 32 gb it is fairly powerful, I have 4 gigs, two cores and I connect to my hard drive with an eSATA cable, the only change so far is that my external drive is filling up, but I still have almost 75 gb available.

Any suggestions on how to get a real time decent playback?

    Best,

    D.

Disk performance decreases rapidly when it is almost full, because you are writing to holes between the other files. If you have a few audio tracks playing at once, try exporting your audio as one file, and using it (in a copied sequence)to replace your originals. This might take enough pressure off the disk to allow proper playback.
