  Capture in FCP export for use on PC w/ PPCS4

  I have a business partner that has captured various footage from an entire year from multiple cameras in various formats. He used FCP on his Mac. He gave me his hardrive, I used MacDrive to copy the mov files from the drive but my PC but I can’t view them.

  White screen but I get audio. Premiere tells me I am missing a codec on import. Quicktime tells me I am missing a codec. I have researched this all day. It seems PC will not play the HD mov files from FCP. The codec is only available on MAC.

  I can borrow the MacBook and re export the raw footage, but what would my best choice for export of these clips be? I will be editing on PC in Premiere CS4.

  Please help this is getting frustrating!

  You must use a codec that is supported on the PC. You are correct that Apple’s HD codec is not available for the PC.

  You should try the Avid DNxHD codec (free) which will compress well and is near lossless:

  What version of Adobe CS are you using?
  What version of Quicktime are you using?

  I can play most Apple Prores files without difficulty. You need to have a newer version of Quicktime. The latest is 7.6.2. I use 7.5.5 as it’s worked for me.

  While the Avid codec is free and awesome, it plays terrible in Premiere Pro, so I cannot recommend it.
