  strange render issue

  Hi. I hope one of you kind fellows can help me with a problem i’m experiencing.

  Firstly, i’m new to PPro, a director who’s just starting to edit.

  I’ve a new install of CS4 most of which is working great – after effects in particular. Premiere Pro though, is throwing me a strange problem when i render. I’ve imported a QT animation codec file i’ve exported from After Effects. Looks great in the source window, plays back well etc. Works fine too when i drag it to the time line and play back in the program sequence window. However as soon as I apply a simple transition to it (in this instance a dip to black at the end) that bit of the file in the program sequence plays back either as a full screen bluey/green block colour or with a hint of what’s underneath it coming through that colour.

  Hmmmm. Perhaps it needs rendering I thought. Press enter and render the entire timeline and then the entire program sequence plays back in this strange colour.

  Any ideas what this could be? I’ve searched here and elsewhere and can’t find any reference to it?

  I’ve imported other files and get exactly the same problem. Except some of the MPEGS i import have this even in the source preview window.

  My project is a 25i widescreen pal project, my machine a Dual core, 2ghz with 2gb RAM and my scratch disk is an external sata drive.

  I’d say forget Quicktime for the time being. At lot of people have been experiencing issues, especially after some of the latest updates (Apple conspiracy? 🙂

  I would export to AVI instead from After Effects.

  Many thanks for your reply. Currently in the process of re-exporting/converting everything to AVI and hopefully that will fix it.

  Interestingly I installed premiere pro on my back up laptop that i use for downloads and automated tasks in the background, which is really old compared the pc with the main install on. All the QTs worked a treat. So i’m currently wondering if as you suggest the older version of quicktime i have on that is helping there. Or perhaps there’s a problem with my grpahics card drivers?
