  • Tutorials for PPro?

Considering switching from FCP to PPro after a disappointing FCP update.

One of the biggest things giving me pause is lack of tutorials for PPro. For FCP, lynda.com has a pretty thorough amount of training for the FCS2. For PPro, the tutorials are much more cursory, even for CS3 (about half the hours for PPro on lynda.com).

For FCP6, I have three Apple Pro Training Series books that are over 600 pages each, including “Encyclopedia of Color Correction” (originally for FCP5 but color correction did not change for FCP6).

But I can only find one official training book for PPro CS4, “Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Classroom in a Book.” The book is about 400 pages.

From what I’ve read, PPro is now every bit as capable as FCP. But without the proper tutorials, I would not be able to take full advantage of the program.

Any guess as to why there are so many more tutorials for FCP than PPro?

Are there other resources I don’t know about?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Although Im not 100% sure I think Lynda has hours and hours on Premiere Pro… then you just need to watch the specific ‘new features in CS4’ video to see what extra has been added.

    Hope that makes sense.

You should be able to pick up Premiere very quickly from FCP.

You could look at Total Training, they are focused on Adobe apps and very good at it.

    Matt and Vince,

Sorry for the late response. Thanks for the replies, and Vince, thanks for the link.

I’m wondering, why are there 2 or 3 times as many tutorials for FCP as PPro? Is it just because PPro is less popular? Or is there actually less to know about PPro than FCP?

lynda.com has about 12 hours of training for PPro CS3, and over 24 hours for FCP6 (including 4 hours for color correction in FCP5, as CC is the same in FCP5). Adobe has one 400 page book. Apple put out over 2000 pages in the three books I have alone.

Sorry Chris, not sure really… I’m only doing fairly basic stuff now so don’t really need the training resources.

    Best of luck,

    Matt.

The Premiere publishing market got pretty crowded after PPro v1. I wrote a book for version 1 and then there were ten authors writing for v2 and I decided to bow out. If anything there’s been a surplus of material out there for PPro.

You could check out Class On Demand for training as well. I have training for the CS4 suite as well as PPro. There have been multiple reviews around the web, and I think Digital Juice is running a special right now.
