    PLEASE HELP

    CS4 Production suite
    Dell Studio 1737
    Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz
    4 GB ram
    64Bit Vista home premium 6.0
Mobile Intel video 4 series express chipset family I BELIEVE its the intel 4500mhd
using e-sata for 1TB external hard drive (for footage and for Cache)

I cannot get video to show on any of the 3 screens – small clip preview screen (top left corner), the Source Clip monitor or the Program monitor. If I open another program and then minimize it I can see part of the closed window where the Program video is supposed to show up. I can play the timeline and hear audio but that is all.

I can see video in my camera during playback. It is connected thru a firewire port.

What might I be doing wrong?

Thanks for any help you may give.

    1. Have you captured the video from your camera to your hard drive?
    2. Is it DV or HDV?
    3. What shows up in the Program window? Black or Offline?
    3. Will the clip play in Windows Media Player?
    4. Will Premiere display other video, like the WMV samples in My Videos?

A wild guess; You captured only audio. At the top of the “Logging” tab in the Capture window is a drop down menu…Capture…(What).

Video captured to esata hard drive
    2. Is it DV or HDV?
    DV
    3. What shows up in the Program window? Black or Offline?
Nothing – just the same blue/gray color as everything else in Premiere. The only time I see anything in any premiere video window is when I open another windows program (Firefox for example), when I close Firefox and Premiere is still on maximized, whatever was on firefox in the area of the Program window remains frozen in the program window.
    3. Will the clip play in Windows Media Player?
Haven’t tried it but the clips do play in AE
    4. Will Premiere display other video, like the WMV samples in My Videos?
Again, no video, I have tried sample clips, clips captured from old prem pro 1.5… same problem every time.

I’m torn over it being the video card becuase the clips will play in AE. I thought maybe it’s a Vista issue… hopeing someone may have had the same issue and have found a solution already

The results you’ve explained are what happens when a video card driver isn’t working properly. AE may use it ok, but ppro won’t.
Post your video card details and the driver version you’re using.
Do a search on that card and PProCS4 you may get a hit on the driver version you’ll need.
    Otherwise…
Make sure your video card has the most up to date driver from either the laptop maker or the video card maker. If so then you’ll need to roll it back to an older version. Vista maybe the cause for the driver conflict as your laptop model seems a little older that Vista…. quite a bit older.

I don’t know about CS4, but in older versions of PPro there was a setting for desktop playback; one could choose between accelerated display (OpenGL?) and “compatible”. That might help if there is a driver issue.
