  Colour differences between Premiere and Quicktime

  Dear All,

  I am currently editing some progressive PAL footage transferred from 16mm film.

  When I import the file in Premiere Pro CS4 to edit it and then export it as a Quicktime file (no compression) I end up with something with colours that are slightly duller than the original file.

  Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this? I’m a bit worried that the colours will change or the quality will decrease every time I export a file or move a file between programmes (especially between Premiere Pro and After FX CS4). I’m working on a Mac. I’m quite sure that I have selected the maximum quality Quicktime format for my export.

  When you say duller, do you mean less saturated? not as bright? It could be that the 16mm transfer could be done in RGB colour levels and Premiere is editing in 601. You should able to change the viewing monitor’s colour space by right clicking on it and the option to view in rgb or 601 should be in there.

  Also if you are using After effects, rather than exporting and reimporting files, why don’t you use Dynamic Linking? It is heavy on processing power but it means you will retain the original quality until the end product!
