I have several 8-12 minute clips shot on Panasonic HVX200 P2 and imported into PPCS3. Eventually I will burn to DVD to send, but my boss wants to send them out via e-mail first. I need the files to be 5-8 MBs. I’ve tried using the media encoder and exporting wmv files, decreasing the maximum bitrate and shrinking the file to 320 x 240, but the quality is poor. Does anyone know of a way to create a file this size with decent quality?

I think this is the wrong approach. A better solution would be to post them online and email a link. That’s how most of us do it.

At 8 MB for 10 minutes, that’s the kind of quality you will get in most encoders.

H.264 may yield to a slightly better quality for the size, but nothing to write home about and some viewers may have to download Quicktime.

Know your audience. It is the norm for the following situations to exist:

    1. Corporate computers may not have Quicktime, the latest Flash player or even the ability to play any video.
    2. Websites with video may be blocked by firewalls or severely bandwidth limited.
    3. E-mail attachment limits often are only a few megabytes.
