Let’s say that I captured 60 minutes worth of footage without scene detect on and the result was 1 60 minute avi file. I trimmed out several subclips from the 1 file, how could I rename the subclips as well as organize them in the project panel? Currently, Premiere views all of my trimmed clips as clips of 1 large file and I really want it to recognize them as individual or independent so I can organize them in the project panel. Thanks in advance for any help!

Set your in and out points, drag and drop the clip (the visual, not the bar) into the project files area. You’ll be allowed to create a subclip that will stand independent of the full footage.

    Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I just tried to do that and when I drag the clip from the source window over to the project window, the pointer turns into a circle with a line through it, indicating it will not drop it into the project window.

I wanted to post the same question. Tried that dropping into the project files tab but it doesn’t work either. Can’t they be rendered as seperate clips without handling them all seperatly?

That’s so strange. But its working flawlessly for me.

All I do is set my in and out points on the file preview footage (not the timeline footage) then click and hold on the visuals of that footage and drag across to a blank spot in the window where it shows all the files you have in that project and it asks me to name my new subclip.
