  Timeline jumps frames at minute marks. Why?

  Whenever crossing minute marks the timeline jumps ahead 2 frames. For example, 02;59;29 to 03;00;02 Even when zoomed in to one frame. How does this affect the actual time of a long form project? Does it lose those frames even though the time indicator says something else? So for say a 30 minute project whenever this happens does the project actually lose those frames each time or what? I’m confused… Thanks for any help!

  This is known as “drop-frame” timecode. Only the frame number is dropped, not the actual frame.

  A quick search on the Internet will get you lots of info on the subject. 🙂

  Due to some odd history of TV technology, drop-frame is needed so the frame numbers match real time. Otherwise, “video time” would be “off” about 2 seconds per hour, which is not good for broadcast scheduling.

  It’s disconcerting when you first see it, though!
