    Hi all

Is it just me or is every version of AFX after V4 extremely sluggish in it’s interface? I’m not talking about speed of rendering, but general usage. For instance, on my rubbish old PC running AFX 4, I could have a massively complicated composition yet when I ‘dragged’ the value of something like a directional blur, there would be no ‘lag’ on my movement. Does that make sense? The slider would move instantly with no ‘resistance’. The same applied to selecting and moving keyframes. After the value was changed obviously AFX would take ages to preview the frame, but during the actual changing of the value my progress was smoooth.

now, on my quad 2.5 G5 with afx 6.5, as soon as a composition gets busy, moving sliders and selecting keyframes becomes like wading thrugh molasses. It’s like AFX 6.5 is having to make calculations at times (eg. whilst moving sliders and keyframes) that AFX 4 didn’t.

I don’t really know the inner workings of AFX but i suppose it’s a real-time preview function or something. is there any way to turn it off? If I can’t I’m going to have to buy a punchbag or something…

    ta very much

You can turn off Live Update with the leftmost key in the top of the timeline window. This prevents any live previews being calculated until the mouse button has been released.

haha thanks, thats got it. I realised halfway through my post that it must be something as simple as that, words cannot describe how annoyed I am at myself!
