When a PP project is loaded into the computer to edit, where does the database data reside?

In Memory? If so, what happens when you go over the 3Gig limit?

    On the System Disk?

On a drive specified by Selections is PP preferences?

The database is contained in the project file. When Premiere loads a project, pointers in the project file allow creation/loading of picons, waveforms, etc. necessary to display the project attributes on screen. These are stored in RAM until the program is saved, closed, or another project is opened. At that point, the project file database is updated.

Pretty much all NLE systems work in this way.

    Eric,

Thanks for responding. I’m still following up issues you responded to previously.

More qeustions. How likely is it that you will run out of memory with a very large complex Pp project that utilizes timelines from many pre-exiting projects?

If you do run out of RAM, does it go to the swap drive? If so, what effect does that have on performance? Could this choke the system?

PPro up to v.CS3 would encounter low memory issues with larger HD projects. I haven’t seen this issue in standard def projects, some which have been quite large.

Yes, running out of RAM can affect stability, and slow things to a crawl. PPro will typically give you a low memory warning, at which point you should close any unneeded sequences (they take up memory), close and restart PPro (This flushes the RAM).

CS4 is supposed to address this issue.
