Adobe CS4 on a Laptop??? Lots of crashed
I have a Toshiba Qosmino with DuoCore T2400 running at 1.83 Ghz, 4 GB ram at 1.83 Ghz, Windows XP Sev pac 3…Nvida Gforce 7300 video. no viris programs running. Do have approx 51 processes running. Have tried to shut down all possible process and same crashes.
The two programs that crash all the time are Premiere and Encore CS4
Premiere will start some times and sometimes not. I’ve tried a new project, importing a CS3 project seems to make no difference.
Encore crashes “EVERYTIME”… tried to import from Premiere into Encore.. when the timeline is clicked in Encore it crashes EVERYTIME. Tried a new project in Encore same problem.
I have uninstalled CS3 and uninstalled CS4. Reinstalled CS4 only…. same problems.
The other Adobe CS4 programs run fine… Photoshop, etc.
any suggestions…. thanks!

You weren’t involved with any prerelease programs?
I’d check on the display card drivers…make sure they’re the latest that Adobe has approved.
51 processes isn’t the end of the world, but your configuration is probably about as light as you’d want to try… I suspect that all of us running XP will find ourselves pinched with CS4 as XP’s inability to recognize more than 2.5 GB of RAM is an incredible limitation.

I have a full purchase of CS4. Did download the latest video drivers but they are 2006 dated… It appears the Nvida is ok.
Kind strange as I ran CS3 with zero issus on the same machine. My hard drive is new.
I also installed on a much older PC and CS4 ran ok. I installed on an older Tochiba Laptop and the same thing.. crashs everytime. I wonder if it’s something to do with Toshiba Laptops
I was hoping I did not have to spend hours on line with Adobe…

Well…it’s always possible that there is some little piece of innocuous utility software unique to Toshiba laptops that causes an issue…those are difficult to diagnose until you encounter it of course…
The very idea that CS3 ran without issue does seem to point toward some conflict unique to CS4…
Be careful on NVIDIA drivers…the latest aren’t always the best…Adobe has approved some version of the drivers…usually not the latest ones. Again, if CS3 ran without issue, it’s probably unlikely that the display drivers are the problem.
Can you try uninstalling any unique little programs on the machine that may not be necessary?
I know on my Toshiba (I have a teensy email-getter machine T2300, 1.66GHz with a Gog of RAM that does run OnLocation CS4 for monitoring-not recording/capture-purposes and it seems to work), I have a ton of Toshiba-unique utilities that could go if I needed to run the machine for production purposes…

I had some prob’s with this issue myself. I found that an update (rollback I think) saw me download the laptop manufacturers last supported video driver (nVidia 7300). It seems to have fixed the issue.

Were these form the Toshiba site or Nvida? When I check with Nvida their site referres me to the Toshhiba site and the only one shown for my laptop is the GForce 7300 V6.14.10.8308 Dated Jan 2006
Did you roll back before that driver?

Its an Asus laptop F3JC. I had to get it from the Asus notebook downloads.
nVidia one’s i think worked generally but ended up having CS4 prob’s.
So I rolled back 1st, then installed the downloaded last drivers from Asus.

My company will purchase me a new laptop, but I need one that handles CS4 with little or no problems. They are willing to spend around $2,000. Can anyone make suggestions?
