October 16, 2008 at 3:57 pmIt depends on what you are capturing from, and whether it was true 16:9 as in 1.2 pixel aspect ratio.I’m guessing this is from an SD tape.
I can’t quite tell on your screen grab whether the footage is actually stretched horizontally or if it’s letterboxed, so I will go with the most likely scenario.
It seems that the footage was actually shot in 4:3 with bars applied on top and bottom. That is still 4:3 letterboxed.
To make a true 16:9 timeline, you need to create a new 16:9 project.
Make sure that your footage is interpreted as 0.9 pixel aspect ratio by right clicking on it and choosing interpret footage.
Then zoom in using the motion settings to fill the preview frame. The down side to that process is that you will incure a slight loss in quality, but that would be the only way to achieve it in Premiere.
