I was wondering if there is a way to shorten my render times. I thought that buying a new quad core Mac with 14GB of ram would do the trick, but it’s not much faster than my old dual core PC with 2GB. The file I’m rendering is a 1080×720 movie with 7-8 AE transitions, and a voice and music track. The total length is 25 minutes and it’s taking about 14 hours to render.

Another problem I’m having is that twice now when rendering as a .mov file the render goes late into the night and then when I check it in the morning I get a message that “…failed to return a frame…canceling render” or some such aggravating error, and I have to start again.

Is Final Cut any better? There has got to be a better way, One day shooting, one day editing and then a week to render…

    Thanks, Alan

    Alan,
25min for 1080×720 quality takes 25hrs sounds about right for your setup. Yes, a Quad will help, perhaps cut that to half? (I have a quad, yes, it still takes 10+ hrs to render 30min stuff sometimes, depends on the # effects applied.
