I was visiting Matrox site to choose a Matrox RTX2 and reading the data sheet I could not figure out what’s the difference between Matrox RTX2 and RTX2 LE. Can anyone help me?

The RT.X2 is a full-length PCIe card which only fits large workstation cases. It has a dedicated DVI-D output to provide video preview to an LCD display.

The RT.X2 LE is a 3/4 length card to fit more cases, and the DVI-D connection is removed. You may use the analog outputs from the RT.X2 breakout box to preview video since DVI output is removed. Besides lacking the DVI output, the LE works identical to the RT.X2.

If you have more RT.X2 questions, please look me up, I’ve put together RT.X2 tutorials

    Thank you for answering me.
As I have ordered a RTX2 SD, I could try with the vendor to replace it with the RTX2 LE. The RTX2 SD card is the same size of the LE?

Yes, the RT.X2 LE should be of a similar design as the SD model. It is a 3/4 length design.

Note that Safe Harbor includes a free RT.X2 tutorial CD with RT.X2 purchases, which can also be had separately

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you for the explanation. Actually my computer is a PC Pentium Core 2 Duo with an Intel DG33TL Motherboard and 3GB of RAM. This motherboard has Two PCI Express x1 bus add-in card connectors and One PCI Express x16 bus add-in card connector.
I think the Matrox uses the PCI Express x16 connector, isn’t it?
This board has one analog monitor out and one DVI monitor out, but when I use one of these outputs the other is disabled. So, as I use two monitors, I had to buy a NVidia card with 2 monitors support. And this video card is inserted in the PCI Express x16 slot.
As I will have to use this slot for the Matrox, what can I do to continue using my two editing monitors?

    Hi Sergio,

I have the DG33FB board in my own RT.X2 system, and it is Matrox-approved, not sure what difference there may be with the “DG33TL model, but should work. Matrox install recipe here:

    https://www.matrox.com/video/en/support/rtx2/design/computer/mvrtx2/result/?id=32

The RT.X2 can use the 1x slot so your video card position is OK, but make sure video card is Matrox approved, as many RT effects are done through the graphics card. Check list here:

    Hi Jeff,

Thank you again for you reply.
I’m using a NVidia e-Geforce 7200GS. It is not in the list of approved video cards by Matrox.
What can happen if I use this card?

    Hi Sergio,

Because the graphics card is responsible for about half of the Matrox realtime effects filters, it is important to have one that works well with Matrox. I don’t know if yours would cause any issues or not, as it is not tested

    Hi Jeff,

I found a Geforce 9600 GT XXX Edition 512MB to buy here in my country, and in the list of recommended graphic cards in Matrox site I found an Asus NVidia Geforce 9600 GT (EN9600GT/HT/512MB). But in Asus site I found several Geforce 9600 GT models and I’m somewhat confused. How can I be sure this Geforce I intend to buy (that’s not from Asus) will work ok with the RTX2. Can you help me?

    Hi Sergio,

ATI and nVidia license out there graphics chips to other vendors like PowerColor and PNY who offer similar-named products. These cards use the actual drivers from ATI or nVidia so they are virtually the same for the most part, so if Matrox approved a “9600 card with 512mb” it *should* be OK regardless of vendor, but I cannot gaurantee that

it is exactly that “should be” element that makes the whole RTX2 stability question a mystery there is always some compnent to blame it on….””no, no its not us”
