  P2 MXF Clip Naming and PPro CS3

  Hey gang!

  I’ve been searching these threads and can’t seem to find an answer or solution to my issue.

  I’m importing P2 MXF footage into PPro CS3. The clips all retain the original MXF file naming structure. I used Barry Green’s tutorial on recording MetaData directly to each shot with the HVX200 with unique clip names but PPro CS3 is only looking at the MXF file name.

  It’s driving me nuts having to index my clips manually based on the funky MXF naming. Is there a way to tell PPro to look at the clip name or user clip name while importing P2/MXF clips?

  The biggest issue I’m having besides having to rename each clip in PPro is the clips are not coming into PPro in the order they were shot or by time code. They are coming into PPro based on the MXF name.

  What am I missing?

  Have you scrolled to the other meta data columns?

  I only used that method once as it is pretty time consuming, but I think it uses a different field than the “Name”. You may to do an edit column and add it there.

  Thanks Vince – I’ll have to dig a little deeper in the columns and check it out. I would really like to be able to import based on the MetaData recorded on the clip and not have to re-organize assets after the import process. I have the MetaData from the HVX being recorded in such a way that each clip that gets recorded gets assigned it’s own unique clip name in a sequence. ie, B-Roll 001 and Interview Take 001, etc. That’s the way it needs to come into PPro to be able to manage assets effectively.

  You can sort the MFX clips by date … that is the shoot date and time.

  Yeah, I suppose that’ll work, too. Seems simple enough. Just had a case of tunnel vision. Although I did find out on another forum that PPro will allow me to read the custom metadata “user clip name” I created by tweaking the columns pre or post import so life should be less stressful now either way.
