  • How to do offline/placeholder workflow in PPro CS2?

I’m going to be shooting a run-and-gun three-day event on DV and filling up around 15 tapes. I’ll have time during the event to dump tapes to external storage as necessary. However, once the event is over, I have a full day of travel ahead of me and I’d like to start editing on my laptop while traveling. The only catch is, my laptop doesn’t have enough space to hold 15 tapes’ worth of DV footage to edit with, and I can’t set up the external storage while traveling. What is the workflow process for this kind of situation?

Ideally I’d like to edit with low-res low-framerate small placeholder files on the laptop — just enough quality so I can see and hear what I’m doing — then when I get back, replace the placeholders with the actual footage on the external storage. Can PPro CS2 do this kind of thing? I’ve been reading the CS2 manual but all I can see are references to batch capture and offline placeholders (which are truly offline, they just show up as a static image which is not useful to me).

Can PPro CS2 do this? Any and all pointers are appreciated!
