Hi, I have delivered to a client a DVD data disc with a Quicktime DV file that was generated in FCP. They are on Windows with PP. The data disc was burnt using Toast with Mac+PC setting. He cannot open file. Gets error message saying “needs extension”. I thought this was about as ubiquitous a file as could be. Any ideas?

“Needs extension” means it needs a file name extension. You may notice that PCs have two or three character designations after a period…these are the indicators for windows of what sort of a file the data is…Mac uses an embedded resource fork in the file.

rename the file (or files) with a “.mov” on the end, and of course, make sure QT is installed on the PC…should work then.
