mpeg editing in Premiere
I have just completed a job where I was supplied with mpeg footage, this had been captured and exported using pinnacle (i enquired) and I recieved a disc with the footage on. For some reason when I imported the footage into premiere it instantly lost quality noticable in the colour, resolution and artifacting. I also discovered premieres little problem with importing mpeg footage with sound but that is a problem that is well covered. My workaround was using pinnacle which I also have to convert the mpeg files to avi and edit in premiere which did the job, looked perfect. It just irritates me that I should have to use consumer software when I’m using premiere. My only thoughts are maybe pinnacle encodes some rubbish into their mpeg files so you can’t really edit them in other software but I’m not sure. If anyone has an explanation or theory I would love to hear it!!!
