  Widescreen PAL capturing shows up as 4:3

  I’m trying to capture widescreen footage from a miniDV tape.
  If I start a new project and pick Widescreen PAL the video settings state that the frame size is 720 x 576 (as normal PAL) with a different aspect ratio.
  The problem is that when I capture from a miniDV camera the clips are 4:3, not widescreen and the image looks squished accordingly. I tried it with two different camera’s, same result.

  Go to the project window, select all the clips rightmouseclick, interpret footage and conform to widescreen.
  That will probably set things straight.
  When widescreen footage looks squished its because it’s anamorphic widescreen recorded so by your camera. Very common.
