capturing problems w/ P.P. CS3 v3.2.0
Hi. I got the Production Premium pack last week and installed everything on my Mac Pro desktop (2 X 2 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2 GB RAM, 500GB G-RAID external drive, etc.) computer.
I’m having problems digitizing footage into Premiere Pro CS3. It worked a bit last week but this week it’s not giving me any video and audio in the preview window during capture (just black.) I have a couple methods of capturing I’m trying to test (and hopefully utilize.)1. is via firewire from a Canon XL-1 camcorder. I also have a couple GL-1s.
2. the other is via a Canopus ADVC110 analog-to-digital converter box. I use this because sometimes I still shoot w/ my Panasonic AJ-D200 DVCPRO camcorder which doesn’t have firewire I/O.When capturing during my tests for option 1, I have the device settings setup as DV/HDV Device control, with Canon selected. No actual camera model selected because my Canons aren’t listed. I just use the Standard setting. The capture window allows me to play the camera as a deck but I get no preview of video in the window. If I try to go ahead and hit capture, it tells me no frames were captured. Last week, I was able to digitize some footage for test purposes in this setup.
When capturing w/ setup 2 (Canopus box) I still get no video or audio in the preview window. I select DV/HDV, Canopus, ADVC110, NTSC. This setup also worked a bit last week.
Oddly, I know signal is going into the machine because (for example w/ option 2) the Canon is still hooked up via firewire and I can see the video and audio in the camera’s viewfinder as if it’s a record deck out of the machine.
I also notice that scrubbing & playing a clip on my time line gives me inconsistent results in that sometimes I hit play and I see it playing in the Canon’s viewfinder but not in PP’s program monitor. It’s like it’s taking a while to register what it’s doing.
There is also no audio being played out of the timeline. I see the video in my Canon but no audio. I know the firewire cable is Ok because if I switch and try bringing in analog footage from the Canopus box, I can see and hear that camera’s signal being pumped through the computer and into my Canon on the computer’s output. I was wondering if there is an audio out setting that is wrong. I see that you have options of selecting if your audio is sent out via your computer’s speakers (which work for me) or you computer’s digital (I assume Toslink) jack. Right now I’m digital in and line out so I can hear my audio via my desktop speakers. Digital out doesn’t help so I assume that’s the Toslink jack. Eventually, I’d like to be able to send a program (w/ audio) out via firewire to a camcorder or a JVC MiniDV deck to record on.
Any advice regarding these problems? Not surprisingly, PP locked up while I was writing this post. It wouldn’t even shut down on a force quit. I had to reboot.
