Slow Export in PP1.5 (wmv)
First off, I want to apologize if there is already a similar thread. I have searched all over the web for incite into my problem and have found little.
I have been a lurker in these forums for months, since I just got my first “professional” video gig.
On to the question: I recently was upgraded to a better system at work.
Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad
2.4 Ghz
3 GB Ram
2 Nvidia GeForce 6800My old computer had one Dual Core processor, under 2 gigs ram and the same video cards.
On my old system it would take 45 minutes to export unrendered 15 mins. of footage to WMV9 format (using Adobe Media Encoder). On the new system it takes 1.5 hours to export the same footage, but already rendered, to the same exact WMV9 Specs.
I know that PP1.5 doesn’t fully take advantage of the quad core, but in monitoring the CPU process during export, it seems to be using all four. Also, I don’t see why it would go slower than the old computer, I would just think it would go the same speed. I will admit that although I have a basic understanding of the processor world, I am by no means an expert.
Additionally, when it gives me an estimate of file size it always says approx. 67 kb. Which is in no way accurate. There has always been a certain margin of error, but that is just ridiculous.
I have read that it is quicker to export in an uncompressed format and then use another program to convert the file, but that also took about an hour and a half.
I appreciate any comments regarding my situation. Thanks!

Rendering preview files has no effect on export times.
Exporting of WMV files will be slowed by any effects applied. Various resolution and bitrate combinations will take various times to export. 2 pass VBR will take twice as long as CBR. -
Thanks for the response. I didn’t know that rendering didn’t affect WMV export times.
