Premiere has very little support for proconsumer formats and it’s a hit or miss with Mpeg2. The other problem is that Sony has decided to implement 5.1 audio recording on these camcorders, (why or why ?), which means that the editor has to support that as well, that could be your issue here…

You have a couple of options. One is to buy a intensity pro card, which is a good thing to have anyway given the small price tag of 300 and change. That will allow you to capture HDMI directly out of that camera.

Your other option is to convert to something like DV, or uncompressed AVI. I would recommend TMPGEnc, (https://www.tmpgenc.net/en/index.html ) which has become a wonderful transcoder without the high price tag.

    Cheers,

    Vince
