video index files while importing mpg files in premiere pro 2.0
Hi,
Recently i m facing a new problem of video indexing files while importing mpg files. I have a hdd camera.the file format is mpg. Usually i edit in premiere pro 2.0 but these days i m facing such problem. When i import an mpg files video indexing starts at the status bar of pro2.0 and this process continues. neither i can watch video nor edit. Can any1 help in this regards???? Waiting for ur reply -

Best bet would be a DV camcorder, but failing that, the next best bet is to connect your HDD cam to a analog/digital converter via composite cables and the converter to your PC via firewire.
ADS Pyro A/V Link is less than $200.Premiere Elements 4 may handle these files better than Pro 2.0.

I have one to. It’s very easy. I asume that you’ve converted the files on the cam’s HDD to mpeg files by renaming it (create a batch file to convert all the extensions of files in one click). Now you have mpeg’s.
it’s weird. PP2 works with MPEG’s but doesn’t like it, and sometimes gives an unknow error. There is a very good plugin on the market for PP2 working with mpegs (main concept pro). you can download there demo version, you can work with it, only there is a watermark.. but anyway. There shouldn be any big file indexing unless the files are 4 GB or so. 300 mb files on a normal pc is under 40seconds of indexing (and only one time).
if this not solving your problem. convert your mpeg’s from your HDD to avi using winavi, or any other good! converter!!

What I have noticed over the years is that DV has a hard time compressing mpeg artifacts without seriously softening your image, so you may be better off converting via software to uncompressed if you can.
