I’ve never tried keying before and am wondering if it’s something that can be used without shooting green or blue screen, but to just key out a certain range of colors in part of an image.

I have a subject shot in front of a red curtain. I would like to use a PSD of a background I prefer underneath that layer and key out the reds of the curtain so that background shows through, but without keying out her face/shoulders. I tried putting a mask around her and applying the key to that layer without success. Since this is my first attempt at using the key effect, I’m pretty clumsy at it. Is it even possible to apply it to only parts of the footage? All help appreciated!
    thanks-

Is it possible to apply it to only part of footage? Yes.

Probably the easiest way to do so would be if you make two copies of the layer. Apply the key to one copy, apply the mask to the other.
