Color Correction + Widescreen
Hey is there a way to color correct in Premiere without it affecting the black bars?

So I shot on Super16mm — so the footage is 16:9 or whatever … so its got the black bars on all 4 sides.
If I want to touch up some shots — say brighten — the footage — it will also brighten the ‘black’ in the black bars. Not a big deal until you watch on a large screen and the difference is really noticeable.
I was just curious if there was a way in Premiere to select a specific area to be touched up …

In the Titler, recreate your black bars exactly. Overlay this across your video. Then you can do whatever to your video without affecting the black bars on final output..

Just a side question. What type of project are you working in, you shouldn’t be getting bars all around.

I don’t know what you mean by project — all I know is all my footage has the bars — straight from the film — beta transfer.

If my project settings are set to 4:3 is that the root of my problem ? — can I change it to 16:9 ?

What do you need your project to be?
I’m guessing it’s 16:9, you can import your current project into a new 16:9 project. You can’t change the current project settings to 16:9.

Took your advice — and by filling in a title with black it solved the problem. Much appreciated.
