    Hi All,

    I have two questions.

    1) I was trying to do my video to look B&W. So I used the B&W effect. But after doing that the video appears blotchy. There are no adjustments for contrast in that effect and the contrast doesn’t seem to be correcting it. I am not sure what the problem is, is it because of different lighting in the video across the frame.

    2) I want to retain certain colors only from a B&W photo. Like the dress of the subject where the rest of the picture would be in b & w. Please tell me how the same can be achieved.

    Regards,
    Anand

The B&W filter only removes saturation. You could do the same thing using the Procamp filter.

There are several techniques that can improve your image after you apply the B&W effect. My favorite is RGB curves. Play with that for a while, you’ll soon get a handle on it, and you can greatly improve the look of your B&W, even introduce slightly warmer or cooler feelings to your footage. Levels is also a good companion to B&W, and it works on the same principle as curves.

Other techniques would require AE since they involve masking several layers, such as a sky for example.

As far as keeping a single color in a B&W image, here’s the good old Premiere 6 tutorial, not much has changed since…

    Hi Vincent and Blast

Thanks for your posts , they were very informative.

Going back to my first question I forgot to mention a point. When I apply the B&W filter my clip looks fine. But when I export the clip as a movie, the composition of the clip appears blotchy.

I am exporting it as Microsoft Avi and Millions of Color as option. Let me know incase there is a way to preview the same before exporting or correct the problem.

    Regards,
    Anand
