FCP to AE CS3 thru Premiere ProCS3?
I run a mac with FCP studio and we recently acquired the adobe video suite, mainly for AE, PS, and Flash. However I have always really really wanted to be able to export projects from my FCP timeline to AE. I am aware of Automatic duck, but I never have had enough reasons to justify sinking $500 into that ability.
Which brings me to my main question, assuming I have a fairly simple timeline in FCP with no effects and I export an EDL, can I import that into Premiere pro, resync the video, then export that project into AE?
I have heard that Premiere CS3 accepts EDL’s and can export project timelines into AE retaining handles and all that good stuff, and vice-versa.I just wanted to know if it would actually work or not before I wasted a whole day trying to make it work, just to realize it’s impossible after 12 hours of beating my head against the keyboard.

This is not a reply. Only a word of someone in about the same situation. I also work a lot in FCP and AE. So I bought the Production Premium packet. Only trouble is that my Kona card won’t work with Premiere. Still waiting for new drivers. Means that I’m still working the way I did, while I was hoping that working with PP and AE would mean a better workflow.
To try to reply to your question: I think that exporting an EDL from FCP and importing it in Premiere, may work if your timeline is not to complex and you don’t use a lot of effects in it.Kool En De Anderen

That’s good news, maybe I’ll actually install PPCS3 when I get a chance and give it a shot. It sounds like a HUGE workaround, but I wouldn’t be doing it too often anyways.
