  • Why is the Frame Size cropped in Sequence

    Hi,

I created a new project and I am getting the frame size to be cropped , as against the original, from both left and right by 25%. When I checked in the sequence panel, I saw that although the option “FIT” has been chosen, but still my left and right edges, don’t fit the actual size. although when i see the properties , the freme size shows as

I have a DV-NTSC original footage with frame size 720 X 576.30fps. I have created the sequence by putting IN/OUT points from the original footage.

    Please suggest.

    Regards,
    Anand

That can’t be right, Anand, since NTSC is 720×480. The frame size you mention is PAL, but then the framerate is incorrect, for PAL that is 25.

    Hi Harm,

I know what you are saying. I wish I could paste the screen shots for the confusion. Plus there is no option for an attachment for posts as well. So I am not sure how I can explain.

Harm is right, the framesize/framerate don’t match. It’s either PAL or NTSC.

If you’re filling an NTSC canvas with PAL footage, it would have to scale down, because it has almost 100 lines more height (PAL: 576, NTSC: 480), which would leave you with black pillarboxes on the left and the right.

On the other hand if you’ve imported NTSC footage into a PAL project, you’d have to stretch the footage to fill the canvas, and you’d lose some of your image on the left and the right.

Simple experiment: the project you opened, is it PAL or NTSC? Try the other one and see if it fits.
