Red bleeding problem…
Dear pros…
I’m working on a movie for a project that starts with a logo in massive red letters. And i mean MASSIVE, great big fiery red letters.
But red bleeds on video, right? So it looks AWFUL.
So, what can I do? I tried changing the colour to a more pink/orange/burgundy shade of red, but that didn’t look too good either, and i can hardly go and change the logo into blue, or yellow…
So, is there any way to make reds look good when i export them from premiere?
After all, Adobe itself has a red logo, what do THEY do…? 🙂

That’s a common problem with 4:1:1 formats such as DV.
You don’t want to change the color, you want to change its luminance and saturation.
Look for the 3 top right letters in your color picker, and play with S and L levels.

Is there a rule of thumb for getting the best results? Surely if it’s such a common problem someone must have come up with some kind of best practice..?

The 2 only ways to evaluate saturation and luminance are using the waveform monitor and vectorscope within Premiere, or through a broadcast monitor.

The color picker will also show a warning sign if you are exceeding certain limits in luminance.
Keep in mind that with DV, some bleeding cannot always be avoided. Certain colors just can’t co-exist without issues, that’s what comes with the heavy compression.
