  OT: Getting new install of XP to recognise a RAID

  Hello,

  This is off topic, I’m writing because I’m sure that many of you use RAID’s in your computers.

  I’ve inherited a computer which was built for video editing. It has a total of 3 hard drives: a 40gb system drive for XP and all the programs, and two 80gb drives that were RAIDed for all the files (for a total of 160gb); there is also a 2x DVD burner. The way it is set up is such:

  IDE Primary Channel
  Device 0: 40gb system drive
  Device 1: 80gb RAID drive #1

  IDE Secondary channel
  Device 0: DVD-R drive
  Device 1: 80gb RAID #2

  It was a little sluggish, the copy of XP is about 4 years old and I wanted to install a fresh copy of XP and all the programs and drivers. I removed the original 40gb system drive and replaced it with a new 40gb drive, formatted it and installed XP on it. The computer boots up fine, but when I look in My Computer to see if the RAIDed drives are available, they don’t appear in the list.

  I’ve never done any RAID stuff before, so I’m not sure where to even start looking for information; I’m assuming that XP somehow has to be tweaked, either by installing a RAID driver or maybe a setting has to be turned on.

  My motherboard is a Tyan Thunder K7 s2462 (AMD-760 MPX chipset).

  Can anyone point me in the right direction to get XP to recognise my 160gb RAID drives?

  Hey,

  BTW, the RAID is something called a ‘dynamic disk’, I don’t think that it is a real RAID with a hardware controller.
