RAM: 2GB to 4GB?
I’m working on a large project right now in Premiere CS3 and occasionally when I have multiple video layers going on at the same time I get low system memory warning popups – and eventually a crash. Would increasing my RAM from 2GB to 4GB help much here?

What operating system are you using?
Also sometimes running out of disk space will give the same error for virtual memory, make sure you are not loading up your C drive with a bunch of temp files. -
I’ve got about 250GB free on a 500GB C drive. My project is saved on a separate internal 500GB drive that has 50 GB free.
System specs:
Dell w/ Core 2 Duo
Windows XP Media Center
SP2
2GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 7900GS -
I have a dual core with 4G of RAM and working with native HDV files I get a lot of low memory alerts. It never happens when I use Cineform or DV.
So I doubt that the actual amount of RAM you have really matters all that much in regards to this alert.

What you might try is when you start getting low memory alerts is to check the size of your video storage drive since its getting full, If your scratch disks project files, previews, etc. are all on this drive it can fill up with temp files
