Hi; I am trying to confirm a workflow in PP 1.5 which will give me the ability to fill a full screen 16×9 tv with the DVD I create.
At present I am working with 1080 HD footage licensed from a stock house.

I have imported this footage into a PP 1.5 DV widescreen (1.2) ratio project and re-sized to fit. When exporting I go direct to mpeg 2 using a 16 x 9 Adobe Media Encoder setting. I then import into Adobe Encore 1.5 and author.

The resulting DVD’s play in widescreen format using Win-DVD on my computer and generate a letterboxed result on the 4×3 screen I have in my studio. (I’ll buy a 16×9 monitor when I have the spare cash)

The question I have is when I am transcoding in PP should I be transcoding in 16×9 or 4×3 allowing for the pixel ratio I have set up in the project to fill an HD screen.

I appreciate any comments on my workflow just as I appreciate any insights into the effect of the aspect ratio choices I make on my final project.

The HD screen is 16:9 so transcode to that. As you said, it plays fine in widescreen and in 4:3 – so what is the problem? Of course, you need a DVD player that plays widescreen but they all do by now, don’t they?

Sorry Steven I just was looking more for confirmation as opposed to highlighting a problem. This my first widescreen project and was worried about avoiding playback issues. (plus a big replicator charge if I screw up)
