Editing MPEG2
Recently upgraded to Premiere Pro 2 (I know, I’m a little behind the curve) and was wondering how well it handles editing MPEG2 footage. I’m referring mainly to stuff from the new hard drive camcorders that you feed right into your PC via USB. Since MPEG2 is already compressed editing in that format then going to output your final video will result in a loss of quality right?
How do you think footage from a Sony VX2000 compares to something shot in HDV format (I realize that is a broad question since there are several models of camera)? Maybe the “loss” (from editing) won’t be too bad if you are going to be delivering in standard def anyway. I’m not real hip on the new HDV format so maybe I’m way off here. I’m just looking at some of the new options available. Basically I’ve been shooting with the VX2000 for years now and if I were to get a new camera (without spending $7,000) I am not sure which way to go yet. My first choices are the PD-170 or the FX-1 but I don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket. What do you all think?
