  • Problem Exporting to Tape

    Hello!

I am having difficulties exporting to DV Tape. I can capture footage just fine into my system, but when I export to tape, only black is being recorded to the tape. In the monitor window I see a screen that looks similar to the “Offline Media” graphic, but it is blue and I have no idea what it says, because it is in multiple different languages, but is to the effect of replicating elsewhere? While the timeline is “recording” the deck shows that it is recording, but it is only black and no audio is exported either.

What am I doing wrong here?

    Thanks in advance!
    Sandra

The blue screen is normal…it is exporting to your external device and not displaying in the monitor window. I suspect a setting on your deck is the problem…”DV-IN”

    Hello Mike!

Well, the deck I am using has the same DV In/Out connection. Everything is hooked up fine, I have complete deck control from Premiere. Is there a setting inside my project settings that I am looking over?

    Thanks for replying!

While there is only one firewire connection to your deck, many decks have internal settings in the menu for choosing DV or analog IN or OUT. You want DV-IN.
    I suspect Premiere’s settings are fine, but check Playback Settings>Export Device= DV 29.97i (720 x 480).

The deck is set for DV-IN. The deck is a JVC SR-DVM70 (DV/HDD/DVD) in case that helps. In Premeire Pro, this is checked in the Playback Settings Window “Disable video output when Premiere Pro is in the background”. What is that for, and should it be checked?

Okay, here’s the deal. I am using an HP laptop with an external PC firewire card…I thought another program, or incompatible codec, was interfering with premiere and wouldn’t let it export to tape so I re-installed the Operating system, updated everything and installed only premiere pro and the same thing happened…I then installed premiere pro in my friends ACER desktop with onboard firewire and export to tape as well as monitoring through the camera worked fine. So, I suspect that our firewire cards are not fully compatible with premiere pro. If you installed a third party firewire card in your computer, that’s definitely the problem. Try updating the drivers for it, if you can’t, I recommend getting a card that’s compatible with premiere pro…check their site for a list…hope this helps…ALLAN ONDASH.
