avi to mpg1 export problem
I am attempting to export to mpg1 from the sequence using media encoder. It will run for a while and then give a “failed to return a frame” message. The file that results will function fine, except that it does not include the entire content of the sequence. I have tried various other sequences with the same result. I have exported to mpg 1 in the past just fine. Suggestions?

The error message could be true (I doubt it)…a empty frame in your timeline could cause this. Maybe the next frame after the end of your previous export. If you are running Premiere 1.5, there is an update to 1.51 that fixed some bugs like this.

It always stops in the middle of clips, which do not contain any blank frames. The stopping point is completely random. Sometimes it makes it through 80% of the sequence, sometimes 20% and anywhere in between. I have tried the original master edit sequence and various export to movie outputs from the master edit sequence. I am using PP1.0

Premiere 1.0 had this bug and many, many more! Try exporting as DV.AVI for encoding in a DVD authoring app.

I managed to find the full solution on the Adobe site. I updated the Main Concept encoder, but did not install the 2nd option, which is a Windows update. All works well now. Having installed those updates ages ago, I have found that having still images that are too big can cause this problem. I used to import digital stills and PSD files at their native size, and pan and zoom. But if an image is larger than 1500 or so in either dimension, Premiere has problems.
